Meet Yong Yu, Risk Analyst – Decision Engine
Employee Spotlights showcase the talented employees who contribute to At-Bay work and culture
Yong Yu joined At-Bay in January 2022 as a Risk Analyst on the Decision Engine (DMN) team. In this role, she works in lockstep with the Research and Development (R&D), Actuarial, and Product teams to implement new products.
Yong has led projects that made a significant impact on the success of cross-functional teams at At-Bay and our insureds in her year and a half at the company.
We spoke with Yong to learn more about her recent accomplishments on the DMN team and why she thinks At-Bay’s culture is so unique.
What’s a recent project you worked on that you’re proud of?
Excess and Surplus (E&S) and Admitted cancellations is a recent project that I am proud of, not only because it’s the first project at At-Bay I led from the DMN side, but also because it truly helps streamline and automate the cancellation process for E&S and Admitted products.
Before this project, adjusted premiums upon policy cancellation were computed manually, which was time-consuming and prone to human errors. After months of close collaboration with the Compliance, R&D, and Product teams, we successfully implemented the cancellation functionality on Athena for E&S and Admitted products.
The calculation logic for this cancellation functionality resides within the decision engine, taking into consideration the latest state insurance guidelines to generate corresponding adjusted premiums, adjusted embedded security fees (for E&S products), and adjusted state surcharges (for Admitted products) based on the selected cancellation effective date and reason. The new cancellation functionality also offers the option to send relevant documents to the broker upon policy cancellation automatically.
What do you think makes our team culture unique?
The team culture at At-Bay stands out for several reasons. First, the people I work with are genuinely good and caring, creating a positive and supportive atmosphere. Moreover, everyone shares the goal of driving the company’s success, leading to a strong sense of unity and collaboration.
Additionally, At-Bay goes above and beyond in valuing its employees, as evidenced by the growth opportunities and amazing global retreats provided. These elements have exceeded my expectations, and they make the At-Bay team culture unique.
How do you think At-Bay adds value to businesses or the world at large?
At-Bay helps businesses mitigate potential financial losses by providing coverage for expenses related to data breaches, legal liabilities, recovery costs, and more. This coverage safeguards businesses from the financial consequences of cyber incidents and allows them to focus on their core operations with peace of mind.
Furthermore, by promoting cybersecurity best practices and risk management, At-Bay raises awareness and improves overall cyber resilience across industries, ultimately making the digital world a safer place for businesses and individuals.
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
Paragliding in Switzerland is the next top item on my bucket list after skydiving in Hawaii last year. Since I am only planning to paraglide once, Switzerland is the ideal destination because it is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, including majestic mountains, pristine lakes, and picturesque valleys. I can’t wait to soar through the Swiss Alps for a thrilling and unforgettable experience!
